Skylar Andrews was awarded the title of Brandon High School’s New Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 School Year. Ms. Andrews began her time at BHS in the Spring of 2023 as a student teacher to Zach Roberts. As a Rankin County Native, Andrews always knew she wanted to teach in her early adolescence. She began the journey towards her position as a 9th and 10th grade English teacher by attending Delta State University and receiving a Bachelor of Science in English Education and an Associate of Arts Degree from Jones College. This award recognizes Ms. Andrews’ immense dedication to improving her students’ education and enthusiasm for her job.
When asked for a word of advice she would give to aspiring teachers, she responded, “Everyone possesses the skills of being a teacher, but one must believe in it first… It only takes one teacher to make a difference.”
