Earlier this November, Mississippi held its general election, where we had a loaded ballot. The polls were busy on Tuesday, November 7th, with nearly 800,000 votes counted. Here at the Paw Print, we’re proud to announce that a few of our writers were also a part of the election. Kaelynn Keller, Will Hammack, and Wyatt Eaton were all volunteers stationed at Brandon City Hall, helping people access, understand, and submit their ballots.
The Governor’s race between incumbent Tate Reeves (R) and challenger Brandon Presley (D) was undoubtedly the most consequential choice voters were tasked with on election day. The race was expected to be a close one, and it was; 51.6 percent of the vote was enough for Reeves to win the election without triggering a runoff, which would have been the state’s first in history. Some other notable positions up for election were Lieutenant Governor, won by Delbert Hoseman; Attorney General, won by Lynn Finch; Secretary of State, won by Micheal Watson; and several seats in the MS House of Representatives.
Thank you to those who assisted in the voting process, and we are so excited to see what the future holds for Mississippi and its governing bodies!
