Retired Teacher Spotlight: Heidi Hill

Retired+Teacher+Spotlight%3A+Heidi+Hill

Throughout high school and college, veteran Softball Coach Heidi Hill recognized she wasn’t ready to relinquish her passion. When school ball was coming to a close, she decided to pursue her dream of coaching. Twenty-five years ago, she accepted a softball coach position at Brandon High School, opening the opportunity to lead the softball team to an astounding 400 wins. The most exciting part of being a coach and teacher at BHS was working with her players and “Just being a part of their lives,” she states.

Her most memorable moment at BHS was her 2019 season, where they played for the Mississippi State Championship. The following year, the 2020 team played the best season she’d ever witnessed. Unfortunately, their winning streak of 10-0 was lost due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

During her 25 years at Brandon, she led the team to several championships across the Magnolia State. From south state to north state and an overall State championship, Hill wants to be remembered for being passionate about what she did, “Whether that be teaching Driver’s Education or coaching softball,” she asked to be remembered for doing good and loving on her softball players.

Word of Advice for Upcoming Coaches/Teachers:

“Take your job seriously, have pride in it, have passion in it. Your players will play for you harder when they know that you have passion for it and to let the players know that you love them. They will play, especially girls, will play harder for you when they know you care for them as a human being. Love the sport and love the school that you’re at.”

Post-retirement, she plans to continue serving the community by providing internship opportunities to students who may need assistance in the next stages of their lives while also taking on a role as a Sales Representative for Apex Athletics in Flowood, MS.
