So far in 2025, Mississippi’s legislature has debated bills addressing various issues, including immigration enforcement, Medicaid eligibility, and education funding. When was the last time you heard anything about what happens in Mississippi’s government? When was the last time you heard about new laws for our state? There is a large problem within our state of citizens not being aware of what is happening in our government and being unaware of civics in Mississippi. Our government affects our daily lives, so why is it that no one seems to be aware of the laws we live by? It is crucial for all citizens to apply themselves to their government and get involved with their communities. You can help during campaigns, watch legislative debates, research on government websites, and many other ways to educate yourself on what is being discussed and voted upon within our Capitol. 

If you see bills that you have strong feelings towards, it is necessary that you call your representatives and ask them to vote for or against it. As citizens and as Americans, we have a right to voice our thoughts, and we must take advantage of this if we want to have a democratic government.
