Bree Strong: Fighting with Faith Story

Bree Wood is a vibrant 9-year-old from Brandon, Mississippi. Known for her fiery red hair and kind spirit, Bree never fails to bring joy to those around her. However, in mid-2024, her family noticed something was not right. Bree was admitted to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital on September 14, 2024. After months of being sick, an MRI scan revealed that little Bree had a brain tumor. This came as a huge shock to her family, and while they were devastated, they were thankful God answered their prayers for an explanation.

In the early hours of September 18, Bree underwent surgery for a routine biopsy to determine whether her tumor was cancerous. After the team of doctors completed the surgery, Bree returned to the ICU, where her parents were expectantly waiting. In the days that followed, Bree faced serious complications, requiring intensive care and medical interventions to stabilize her.

Just one week later, Bree was moved from the ICU to a standard hospital room. This is where the family was gathered when they received the results of Bree’s biopsy. Bree was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer most commonly found in children. Despite this devastating news, the Woods family held on to faith and focused on the next steps in healing for sweet Bree.

In early October, Bree and her parents relocated to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she began radiation therapy. The weeks that followed were challenging, filled with difficult days and long nights, but Bree’s resilience never wavered. After completing radiation, she moved on to chemotherapy, continuing her fight with courage and determination.

Regardless of all Bree has endured, she remains full of life and hope. Recently, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® partnered with Brandon High School to help Bree. During the week of March 3rd through March 7th, students were able to purchase stars from their teachers in order to raise money to help grant her wish—traveling to Hawaii.

If you were not able to buy a star but would like to support Bree and her family, please consider donating to the family’s GoFundMe.  Additionally, if you can not make a monetary donation, please continue to pray for healing, strength, and hope for Bree and the rest of her precious family.

Though the road ahead is long and chemotherapy is tough, Bree is tougher. With the continued prayers and support from the community, I am confident that God will bring both Bree and the Wood family through this. No matter what happens, Bree’s story is a story of faith, a representation of a praying family, and a story of resilience. Bree has a lot of life left to live, and God’s hand is guiding her every step of the way. Her journey is a testament to His power, His healing, and the strength that comes from unwavering trust in Him.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
