The Brandon-Pearl rivalry is far from ordinary. The passionate football game between these rivals, separated by a mere 10 miles, takes place annually. The close proximity between the neighboring schools adds fuel to the fire of tension that builds up throughout the week leading up to the game. This rivalry stretches all the way back to 1949 when these two teams first faced each other. That game ended in a 0-0 tie. Since then Brandon has drastically proved itself with a record of 47 wins and 26 losses against Pearl. The most recent of those wins came this past month.
Each game, whether at Brandon’s Bulldog Stadium or Pearl’s Ray Rogers Stadium, is a spectacle. Students, alumni, and fans from both sides fill the stands, creating an electric atmosphere. This football game doesn’t only stand as a game to us bulldogs. It’s a tradition that showcases the best of Mississippi high school football.
On October 25th, hundreds of fans from both sides filled Bulldog Stadium. The game was full of excitement and energy. The Brandon Bulldogs have trained long and hard for this moment and they did not disappoint. Quarterbacks: Sladen Shack (Sophomore) and Jacob Chancelor (Senior) threw for a combined 347 yards. Standout players include: Quincy Phillips Jr. (Sr), Jay McQueen (Sr), Eli Moorey (Jr), and Tyson Robinson (So): these 4 were heavily influential in Brandon’s win with all of them scoring at least one touchdown. Senior kicker Rhett Griffith also scored 5 extra points, helping the team immensely. The BHS Newspaper Staff would like to commend the entire Brandon football team for all of their hard work and effort in securing this win. Overall, I think that it is safe to say that Purl ate dirt, and we cannot wait to see them do it again next year.
