Mother’s Day is a holiday that commemorates all mothers for the love, care, and sacrifices that they have made for their children. It is celebrated on the second Sunday in May, this year falling on May 11th. The history of Mother’s Day originated during ancient times. In Greece, they honored Rhea and Cybele, who are known as the mothers of the gods (Zeus and Poseidon). In Rome, they enjoyed a several-day festival called Hilaria (Latin for “joyful”) that involved parades, games, masquerades, and offerings at Cybele’s temple. In modern times, there are many simple but kind traditions that most families do to give a little love back to their mothers. Such as gifting arrangements of flowers, giving presents, hosting a brunch or dinner, and Thank You cards. I know that I would not be who I am today without my mother. She has worked so hard to provide for our family, and I could never thank her enough for all the love she has showered me with. She has taught me so many life lessons and has supported me through thick and thin. Nonetheless, remember to show your mom how much she truly means to you.
