Here at Brandon, we love recognizing our students who accelerate inside and outside the classroom. We would like to recognize our own student entrepreneur, Iyonna Moncure. Her business name is “Yonna Nails.” Iyonna felt a calling from God to pursue her plans of starting a business. She knew she was good at doing nails and felt that creating a nail business was the best next step. Her inspiration to continue Yonna Nails is remembering her roots and having aspirations to continue developing her skills. Iyonna knew that nail art would not be easy to pursue, but her love for the talent kept her going. She remains prepared for any business she has through balancing her school and work schedule accordingly and efficiently. For this reason, she usually only takes clients on the weekends as these appointments do not interfere with school.
To prevent herself from succumbing to stress and the fear of failure, Iyonna takes a few moments for herself to complete breathing exercises. Iyonna developed her passion for nail art at 10 years old. She felt discouraged at first, as she thought her work could not compare to the famous influencers on social media. For this reason, she quit. However, due to a knee injury, she found she had more free time and began practicing nails again. This time around, she did not compare her talent to others. Time and dedication would lead to her developing the talent that would draw clients in. Her work is constantly evolving, and so is her love for the business.
