The 2024 baseball season was nothing short of remarkable for the Brandon Bulldogs- the season was defined by grit, perseverance and an unshakable brotherhood. Their hard work throughout the season resulted in a moment that will be treasured in the hearts of players and fans alike: Brandon’s 7A State Championship win. For Brandon, this wasn’t just about winning, it was about proving to themselves, their peers, and their community that they were capable of greatness.
While the team started their 2024 season with a three-loss streak, it was evident from the first pitch of the season there was something different about this team. They weren’t just playing baseball, they were playing for something bigger: each game, a battle; each practice an opportunity to refine their skills; each setback, considered a lesson rather than a defeat.
Then came the turning point- Brandon’s remarkable comeback. After their rough start, the Bulldogs regrouped and refused to let early losses define their season. Led by a mix of seasoned Seniors and hungry underclassmen, the team sharpened their focus by working tirelessly to correct mistakes and strengthen their game. Game by game and pitch by pitch, they clawed their way to the top, stringing together crucial wins that secured their spot in the playoffs.
Their determination was evident in every inning, every at-bat, and every defensive play. By the time they reached the championship series, Brandon was no longer the team that had stumbled at the season’s start—they were battle-tested, confident, and ready to prove they belonged.
The championship series was a testament to their resilience, as the Bulldogs found themselves facing the Hernando Tigers, a formidable opponent. Set on winning, Brandon showcased everything. In the first game of the series, Senior and Ole Miss commit, Walker Hooks, pitched a complete game. Brothers Trey and Jay McQueen both contributed significantly to the team’s run game. Together, the Bulldogs worked hard and defeated Hernando, 5-2.
But the battle was not over, they had to win two out of the three-game series. On May 23, the Dogs returned to Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS. Understanding the severity of this game, the Bulldogs played hard and left it all on the field. Brandon’s Jay McQueen scored the game’s only run in the first inning. A throwing error on Hernando’s part allowed him to score, giving the Bulldogs an early lead. Junior pitcher, Jackson Clark, delivered an outstanding performance, allowing the Bulldogs to maintain this advantage. Despite a strong effort from Hernando, the Tigers could not come back.
When the final out was thrown, the roar of the crowd was deafening. Players, coaches, and fans all embraced. On the field, players were overcome with both emotion and the realization that they had just made history.
Now, as the 2025 season begins, the Bulldogs are eager to win again. The season opener took place on February 10th at Germantown High School. But the game did not go as planned. Brandon fell 7-3 in a hard-fought battle against the Mavericks. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs showed glimpses of their championship-level play, with Sophomore Tre’ Adcox contributing two runs batted in. While this loss was not the way they wanted to start the season, the Bulldogs know that one game does not define a season, and they are determined to bounce back stronger, using this as motivation to fuel their journey ahead.
This dream of a repeat championship isn’t just wishful thinking, it’s a goal backed by the same work ethic and relentless pursuit of excellence that carried them into 2024. The Bulldogs are not just playing to win games. They are playing to build a legacy, to inspire the next generation, and to remind everyone that greatness isn’t just about talent—it’s about heart.
As they embark on this journey once again, one thing is certain: Brandon Baseball isn’t done yet. The championship trophy may have found a home in their case, but their story is far from over. The Bulldogs are ready, the community is behind them, and the fire is burning stronger than ever.
The road to another title starts now. The Dogs are Back at Bat.
