On December 5th, the Brandon community drove down to The Rock in Hattiesburg to watch our very own Bulldog Football Boys play against Tupelo’s Tidal Wave. The game started with both sides of the field erupting in cheers from fans. Within the first quarter, Tupelo managed to score two touchdowns. The score remained at 0-14, Tupelo in favor, through the second quarter. However, the Brandon community did not lose faith in their team. As the football players came back onto the field after halftime, the stands cheered for their reentrance. In the third quarter, Rhett Griffith scored a 33-yard field goal for Brandon: totalling the score to 3-14. Although it was a field goal, Brandon was ecstatic to see points on the board. With that excitement, the team was motivated to score a touchdown.
Cam Short continued to gain Brandon a touchdown with 3 minutes left in the third quarter. Seeing the score was 10-14, Brandon had faith they had the potential for a comeback. Within the first minute of the fourth quarter, however, Tupelo scored another touchdown. Soon after, Tyson Robinson rushed into the endzone, gaining us 6 points. Although we tried for two points, it was deemed no good.
As the score was 16-21, Brandon still held strong in the belief we had potential to win. However, after Tupelo scored with 55 seconds on the clock, bringing the score to 16-28, the stands cleared quickly.
Many Brandon fans believed Brandon would come home with a ring this year. Even though it wasn’t accomplished, we are still proud of our football team and the efforts they have put in throughout this year. At the end of the day, what matters most is not the ring, but the community found in our love for football and the team themselves. We hope we can see Brandon with a State Championship Title in these upcoming years!
