For the 2025-2026 school year, RCSD will switch from Canvas to Google Classroom. Print Journalism had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Gaddie about all the information regarding this change. Next school year, Google Classroom will be the primary student platform used for all RCSD schools, with Canvas no longer being used. Teachers have already had training for this transition, with more training continuing this school year. According to Dr. Gaddie, RCSD is already a Google Classroom district, which will make the change seamless. Benefits of this transition include incorporating Google Meet into the plan, so Zoom will no longer have to be used, and better cyber security for student and faculty Google accounts. Dual Credit students will still use Canvas for their college classes, as Hinds will not be making any changes to their student platform.
