In 1967, the Brandon Bulldogs won their last baseball championship—until this year. Fifty-six years later, the Bulldogs have finally claimed another title, ending a long drought and cementing their place in Mississippi baseball history.
This season started off shaky for the Bulldogs. Early losses left many wondering if they would even make the postseason, let alone win a championship. But the Bulldogs never lost hope. They dug deep, worked hard, and pulled off a remarkable turnaround, finishing the regular season with a 17-11 record.
In the MHSAA Class 7A state championship series, they faced off against Hernando in the best of three series. They dominated the first game, winning 5-2. In the final game, Brandon secured a historic 1-0 victory, defeating Hernando and sweeping the series.
The Bulldogs’ championship win was driven by a strong performance from junior left-hander Jackson Clark, who pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits and recording six strikeouts.
Overall, the victory was a testament to the team’s resilience, as they had a rocky start to their season and faced uncertainty about making the postseason. The Bulldogs never lost hope, and their perseverance and belief paid off in the end.
