On May 16, 2024, the Brandon High School class of 2024 will graduate from this season of their life, and each senior will step into their next chapter. As graduation eagerly approaches, many seniors wonder these fundamental questions: What is my legacy? How will people remember me? What is my impact on the people around me?
With this thought in mind, we sought the insights of senior principal Mrs. Nichole Robinson, a key figure in shaping the legacy of this senior class. Mrs. Robinson views a legacy as “how you hope other people remember you and see you.” She firmly believes that your legacy is within your control. Your actions and behaviors determine how people will remember you. What you do with your time at Brandon High School determines your legacy. You have the opportunity to make people feel what you want them to feel and make a genuine difference.
Mrs. Robinson has been the senior principal for five years and has seen many senior classes pass through BHS. Despite each senior class having unique qualities, Mrs. Robinson said that the main thing each class has in common is “inclusivity.” When you first think of inclusivity, most think of every single person, including everyone in everything. However, Mrs. Robinson’s vision of this shared inclusivity comes from her perception of student interactions. Moreover, she sees that each student at Brandon High School finds a place to belong. She has seen this idea of inclusivity in each senior class, and she hopes to continue watching students discover where they belong.
While each senior class has fostered a unique environment, Mrs. Robinson also appreciates each senior class’s differences. When asked what makes the class of 2024 unique, Mrs. Robinson recalled some of her former senior classes. She commented on the competitive drive that each senior class has had in their academics, sports, and other involvements. However, she noticed something different in the class of 2024. Mrs. Robinson noticed the compassion and empathy that these students have for each other.
She called them “World changers, not just success [full people], but also people willing to be service-oriented and willing to give their time.”
The senior class pushes aside their self-motivations and goals because they are not threatened by the successes of the people around them; they are driven by them. They share compassion for each other, which allows them to celebrate with each other rather than compete against each other.
The class of 2024 will never be forgotten here at Brandon High School. Like the seniors before them, their legacy will forever be remembered throughout these hallowed halls. However, a legacy never stops being made. Just because their time at Brandon High School is wrapping up does not mean they are finished making their mark on this world.
No one can stop you now, class of 2024. While this chapter may be ending, your book is still being written- you hold the pen. Your future awaits you, and it is up to you to write your next legacy.
