Many questions have floated around this school year regarding the school’s track. The reason behind this commotion is the original starting time for this track. It was supposed to begin around February or March of 2022. I’m currently writing this on May 8th, 2024. It seems like a long time gap, right? Of course, people had their suspicions and ideas about why there has been such a long pause of time, but luckily, I’m here to provide your answers.
Right now, you can see the construction for this new track outside the East Side doors. I’m pleased to mention that the workers are very productive, as seen in their daily progress.
The main reason there was such a long hold on the construction is that Brandon High School was working with two companies to begin the track. One company was handling dirt work, while another was handling the concrete side of the project. Some altercations started to form between the school and these two companies. Thus, this created a situation that had to be handled if the school wanted to get on track soon.
It may seem hard to comprehend, but 75 percent of the track is already completed. Now, it’s just the technical parts of the project that must be figured out. These steps take more time than the others because they need more attention. The last thing being added to the brand-new track will be bleachers. Currently, BHS has chosen to stick with small bleachers and potentially move up to larger ones if or when needed.
The track will also give the Brandon High School band a new practice field to use whenever needed. The current plan is that the track will be completed and ready to use before the 2024-2025 school year. As we wait patiently for the completion of this project, the students can imagine all of the different ways this track will be used and enjoyed.
