A new school year is upon us- it’s time to get up to speed on what’s new! In the wake of recent events, safety has become a top priority at RCSD. Over the summer, there were many discussions about school officials and what they can do to provide extra student protection. Last year, it was E-Hallpass, a digital hall pass system students can use with just a button. This year, RCSD has implemented a county-wide policy requiring all secondary students (grades 6-12) to fashion a lanyard-and-badge combo at all times during school hours. The badges are relatively simple, containing only a student’s name, grade level, yearbook photo, and barcodes to be scanned every morning as the student enters. Despite their safety benefits, opinions are mixed on the badges; some students see them as a nuisance while others are happy to have them. Regardless, safety always comes first, and the student body undoubtedly appreciates any effort to make BHS more secure.
